Ben Berry is a proud recipient of the prestigious Ruth DeYoung Kohler Award for Artistic Excellence. Having studied at Shakespeare's Globe Theater, the Royal National Theater, and the London International School for the Performing Arts, Ben has gained a deep understanding of interpreting classical and modern text. As founding company member of Shakespeare on the Cape he performed and collaborated with the Guthrie Theater, Payomet Performing Arts Center, The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, Wellfleet Harbor Actors' Theater, Harwich Junior Theater, The Provincetown Theater, Counter Productions, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and the Nantucket Arts Council. Ben has directed several youth theatre education programs, including a summer performance education series for both the Sheboygan Theatre Company and Theatre for Young Audiences. Ben has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater.
Credits: Ben created the role of 'Don' for the World Premiere performance of Tennessee Williams' autobiographical play THE PARADE. He most recently played Hamlet in HAMLET and Mark in RENT with Peregrine Theatre Ensemble, of which he is co-founder & Artistic Director. Other noted performances with Peregrine include Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR; Elvira in BLITHE SPIRIT, and Ned in Eugene O'Neill's once 'lost' play EXORCISM.
After receiving much critical acclaim for his portrayal of Romeo in ROMEO & JULIET, which was the first Shakespeare performed at the new Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Ben's comedic chops earned him a 'Best Performance' title in the Cape Cod Times for his portrayal of Agnés in SCHOOL FOR WIVES. Ben was in the premiere production of INSATIABLE HUNGER which starred Lea DeLaria; WIT starring McNeeley Myers; and with husband Adam Berry in PHILADELPHIA HERE I COME. Other notable credits include the Off-Broadway revival of Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt's musical, CELEBRATION (14th Street Theater); Matt in THE FANTASTICKS (Skylight Opera); Candide in CANDIDE; William Barfee in THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (dir. Terry Norgeot); Young Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Guthrie Theater); Celia in AS YOU LIKE IT (SOTC/Guthrie); Ariel in THE TEMPEST (SOTC); Leontes/Autolycus in A WINTERS TALE; Betty/Edward in CLOUD 9 (SOTC); Harlequin in TRIUMPH OF LOVE (Wellfleet Harbor Actors' Theater); Eloi in AUTO DA FÉ (Provincetown Tennessee Williams Fest) Paperboy in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Provincetown Tennessee Williams Fest dir.
